Video editing made easy for everyone
Multifunctional video editing studio
The project was made as a part of my role at "Phenom people"
My role: Research, concept development, UX design I September 2021

INTRO
The video studio was created to increase the use of video content in recruitment. The studio offers multi-functional video editing. The video can be branded, cropped, captioned, and adjusted according to your preferences. Using these capabilities, videos can be made professional and publishable.
THE PROBLEM
User-generated videos must be edited and improved before they are posted
In order to increase the use of high-quality video content as part of the recruitment process and across the Phenom platform, a tool is needed that allows adjustments, editing and branding of the video content.
THE CHALLENGES
-
The platform should cover the needs of different personas - recruiters, hiring managers, content managers and cover many use cases.
-
Provide a simple and intuitive platform for non-professionals users.
-
Design a multi-functional interface - design all the micro-interactions of video editing carefully.
USER RESEARCH
What are the different user's needs?
During my user research collaboration with the product team, we mapped all the different users and considered all the different use cases across the Phenom platform. The research was made to understand which functions are important and what kind of edit experience do we need.

COMPETITORS ANALYSIS
What can we learn from similar tools?
I tested and analyzed different video editing products and tools. My goal was to learn how editors work, what their differences are, and what their advantages and disadvantages are. I divided the tools into three types of experiences: linear process, flexible canvas and fixed canvas experience. This way you can compare and understand what experience suits our product.

CONCLUSIONS AND INSIGHTS
01
Our main use cases require basic functions, for quick and simple editing- so fixed canvas experience can be a good fit.
02
We should build the editor in a modular manner so it can be used and changed across platforms, in different use cases.
03
It is important to have main functions such as trimming, accessible from anywhere and not hidden from us. We can use quick actions and timeline actions to accomplish this.
04
Creating an intuitive and familiar user interface requires adhering to the conventions of micro-behaviors of video editors.
THE SOLUTION
Phenom video studio

STRUCTURE
In the studio, the screen structure is a canvas with menus for actions. Actions and functions are categorized into tabs. Your actions will be visible in the preview in real time as you make them. For video editors, this structure is very common and conventional.

VIDEO STUDIO SCREENS
Basic settings
Video settings can be adjusted according to the user's needs. Adapting canvas dimensions, choosing background color, cropping image, reducing background noise, and adjusting speed .

VIDEO STUDIO SCREENS
Trimming
Using the handles and the indicator on the timeline, the user trims the video. It is highly needed by the users, so the timeline is always in front of them.
VIDEO STUDIO SCREENS
Theme design
Here you can add overlay elements on top of the video - add the company logo, employee name and role, or customize text.

VIDEO STUDIO SCREENS
Add captions
Due to exposure to different countries and accessibility needs, captions are very important for users. The captions can either be generated automatically or uploaded from an external file.
VIDEO STUDIO SCREENS
Edit captions
Once the captions are added, you can edit the text and make any necessary adjustments.
